Today on one of the social media sites, a colleague of mine asked a group of people, “what are some of the things you don’t talk about? What if talking about those things gave you access to something new, would you?”.  She went on to say. “I don’t talk about money with my mom or how she relates to money, In my family I was brought up with you just don’t talk about how much money you have or don’t have!”.

We have a hard time taking about anything we feel ashamed about, inadequate in, or inferior around. We don’t talk when we think we are being compared to others in an unfavorable way.

Money is one of the big one! We often have poor money habits, little money knowledge, wrong thinking around money, or  shaky money discipline so we clam up. I teach a class called Money-tudes©  and I find that most people don’t talk about what they make, what they owe,  what they purchase, or why. There is a lot of shame around money.

I also think people don’t talk honestly about weight and food. Again, a lot of shame.  I think there are a lot of people judging other people, and that is where the shame comes from.  You can have a super fit person judging an overweight person about diet when the super fit person is out of control with money, for example.  We have to get away from the place of judging others and trying to be superior, so we can have open honest communication. We must get the ego out of our conversations and communication if we want them to be meaningful and rich.

No one will talk when they feel they are being judged or evaluated.  AND, when we say, “I am not judging you” we are already judging!  If we want to be free to talk and have others be free to talk to us, we have to connect through love!
