Are you waiting around for that “expert” to give you permission, and are you holding back until your “mentor” tells you to forge ahead?

Do you think you  show the “leaders” around you respect by getting their  “OK” before you move on your ideas and do great things? BIG MISTAKE!

You THIINK you will get their blessing.

You THINK they all want you to be a success, and help lots of people.

SOME DO, but haven’t you also felt some serious resistance many times, when you came up with or contributed amazing ideas?

So, in response,  you wait for the “permission” or “buy-in” of your colleagues or those “above” you before moving on that which is stirring in your heart of hearts, after all you don’t want to annoy or offend, right?  Again, BIG MISTAKE!

Get this: YOU are in charge of you and YOU are responsible for what you bring to the world. Don’t wait to do what you are supposed to do because you need the ”OK” of some “expert”. Many so called  “leaders” will hold you back if you wait for their permission.

  1. Awesome post! And is a great reminder to all us that we need to believe in ourselves first and foremost. It is great to have mentors, people we look up to, leaders to follow, etc. But when it comes right down to it, we have to trust our gut and step up to the plate. Once we are at bat, we must take a swing! If not, we are just there standing at home plate doing, well, nothing. So thanks for this great post: Go for it! I will indeed. :-)

  2. Margo, LOVE the point of your article. Yesterday I facilitated a corporate workshop and for inspiration played a TedTalk by Seth Godin from his book “Tribes”. He said, “If you’re waiting for permission to lead, here’s permission. Now go lead because I need you and we all need you.” Point well taken… the person who REALLY needs to give permission to each of us is us! It all starts from within. Thanks Margo for timely article.

The phrase: “YOU are in charge of you and YOU are responsible for what you bring to the world,” just hit me like a ton of bricks! I am responsible for what I bring to the world. I’ve never really thought about it that way. I think we all want to leave something positive behind but I am not only responsible for that but responsible for what I contribute on a daily basis. There is lots I plan to “go for” today and in the near future! :)

This is such a great reminder Margo and I loooove the title “Go for it!”.

You’re so right – many entrepreneurs are waiting for validation of their ideas where the most successful women in business find a way to self-validate and lead from a place of passion, excitement and self-belief. Not saying it’s easy but self-belief is a muscle we can strengthen.

Not only that – waiting in and of itself – leaves us open to the law of diminishing intent which states that the longer you wait to do something you really want to do the less likely it is that you’ll actually do it.

The solution… GO FOR IT! :)
