Margo, have you been a business mentor long, and how did you become a nationally known, expert business coach?

 Although I am successful now, it was NOT always that way at all. I struggled quite a bit in my life, and for many years I really struggled in my business, with obstacles from all sides. Before I ever gained any success at all though, I made up my mind that I wanted a better life, and I did not let anything stop me!  That one thought alone was the start of my success.

Here’s my story:

I grew up on Long Island, New York.  My burning entrepreneurial spirit first showed up in early grade school where I sold RAZZLES to excited young clients for a 2.5 times markup, making them happy I was a part of their lives!

With no real mentors, I quit school at the age of 15 and was on my own shortly after. I held a series of  jobs, and worked my way up in many of them. I did not have a lot at that time, but what I did have was an unstoppable determination to be productive and connected, and to live a rich and deeply meaningful life that would benefit others!

I began to see my life as an opportunity to contribute to others and to myself as well.  I  looked for successful people–those who I admired and whose lives were rich and many-faceted. This helped me form my image of what success looked like. I decided I would not let anything stop me from having what they had.

I got my G.E.D., went to Jr. college, took a rigorous state exam, and wiggled my way into a very fine university, working the entire time and also studying success as I went–something you do NOT learn in school.  I quickly became a mentor for others as I continued studying and learning everything I could about what makes people happy, successful, and fulfilled.

I got married, and nine months later had a baby– then another, and then another, all within four years!  I was exceptional at motherhood and I absolutely loved it, but my entrepreneurial spirit, my creative voice, and my desire to connect with other women still burned within me!

I started a retail decorating company and speaking business with three kids all under the age of three (I had a very supportive and helpful husband, and someone to help me run my business). For a long time I personally fabricated all of the window coverings and custom bedding for my clients, as well as the custom baby bedding I sold!  I also wrote all of my own teaching curriculum for my speaking and seminars)!  I started out small, and my client base quickly grew.

It was exciting, but incredibly challenging, and at times I felt so overwhelmed because more and more people wanted my services, but they were not necessarily the RIGHT people for me (as I found out later as I got smart).

Struggling for Balance and Success

I was trying to balance being a mom and wife with being an entrepreneur, but I did not yet have a marketing strategy to help me zero in on only serving the best clients for me, and I did not have winning systems for my running my business efficiently.  So of course I felt overwhelmed. Sure, I had a lot of clients, but not all of them were the right ones.  They kept me “busy” but not as profitable as I needed to be.  I worked hard but I know I should have had more money for all of the work I was doing. I had activity all over the place but no workable structure for real efficiency and the profitability I deserved. I was flying by the seat of my pants.

Exhaustion Sets In

Running my business was tough for several years. I was truly a giver, but I was working so hard and I was totally exhausted from very long hours and from slaving over clients who were getting my “goods” for way less than they should have been paying. My advertising was costing me a fortune and most of the clients it got me were those who wanted to haggle over price instead of respecting the tremendous resource that I was and the amazing value I brought to them. I cried many times, and I was so sick of the roller coaster. Plus, I was not making nearly enough for all of the meaningful work I put in. I wanted a THRIVING and consistently PROFITABLE business—not a wishy-washy one. I wanted my freedom back. I had ENOUGH!

So…THAT was IT!  I became super-focused on learning what it took to work RIGHT in a small business, not just hard or smart, so I could make my business as highly PROFITABLE and as STRESS FREE as possible. First I had to discover exactly how to do that—which wasn’t easy. There were “experts” around, and information, too. But it was spread out all over the place, and much of it was totally dead wrong.

I became a sponge. I began to study every aspect of business and marketing and I honed in on guerilla strategies and tactics as well as gravitational, magnetic marketing strategies and tactics.  I read, I went to classes and workshops, I sought out mentors, and I diligently studied people and small businesses that were extremely successful, and I gathered together all of the best business and marketing practices and concepts I could find.

I also started to change what I personally did with my small business marketing. I experimented with some new marketing activities that changed the types of clients I brought in–better clients. Through it all, I found that there are very definite, clear, and specific actions small business owners MUST take to reach big success, no matter their industry. I molded them into a system to use for myself. Suddenly things began to really change for me. The wonderful “ups” came more often and the “downs” less often. I was definitely onto something!

I got so good at business and marketing that I became a top expert in my field at the national level and a trainer, mentor, speaker, and writer. I was asked to serve on national committees, advisory boards and forums, and to give keynotes on business success.

As I quickly grew in my own business success, I began to share with other small business owners—through my business coaching practice, which also was now on a national level—the secrests, keys, strategies and RIGHT activities I discovered. To my delight, my system, my blueprint, WORKED in so many industries and for business people all over the U.S., and in other countries as well! People began to get really excited about this step-by-step process I put together to create a THRIVING and PROFITABLE business. Through my systems, I have helped thousands of people improve their businesses and their lives.

Today I am a Full Time Business Coach, Mentor, and Speaker

I am known worldwide as Margo deGange, Business & Lifestyle Designer!  I teach people worldwide how to REV-UP and SUPERCHARGE their businesses FAST, and focus ONLY on the activities they need, while forgetting the rest (and that is sure refreshing—I wish someone had been there for me in that way when I was growing my business and raising kids at the same time).  I help individuals find their calling in their life and work, and I get them to capitalize on their most valuable gifts.  I show them how to get others to VALUE them and WANT what they offer!  I help my clients create rich, beautiful lives and purposeful, meaningful, and profitable businesses and life work!
