You are right. These gadgets can definitely pull our attention away from the most important things in our day.

I love that you are “uber-consciously aware” and that you schedule the important work for the early day and also schedule time to “play” with technology. This is super smart!

And you are also right about delegating. The more we delegate, the more time we have to explore new tools without getting our businesses off track.

Yes, it all starts when we get super excited over a new tool we can use to “simplify” (and I can relate to wanting more and more, and getting lost in the thrill of it all), and then before you know it we are overwhelmed with all of the techno-toys, and way off of the original focus, which is to be more productive, more successful, and make our businesses EASIER to run!

As you said, it is best to have balance and keep it simple.

Again, I do appreciate your reply. Sometimes the workers and managers at the store level do not carry out the mission of the organization as they should. I will also add that my grown kids are regulars at Taco Cabana and will be glad to see that you care.

So knowing I like exploring these bright and shiny distracting objects, I schedule my MOST important activities earlier in the day when I’m fresh, creative and engaged, and then I can play, explore and do a little training, reading, etc., towards the end of my day.

It’s like the concept of going to the gym first thing in the morning … you feel like you’ve accomplished something really good already.

… and, follow it up with delegate, delegate, delegate. I think that’s my new mantra.

Nicely put. Sometimes I feel the more technology I master the more I want to master then find I’m dreaming technology, thinking tecnology, stressing about technology, looking at new technology…..then overwhelmed by it. It’s getting a balance in our business and keeping it as simple as possible that creates the energy to live a life when the computer is off
