Believers, let your light so shine before others that they glorify God because of your good works.

How does that actually work in real life?

When people see love in action, it causes them to think of God. There’s something in us that responds to the love of God. When you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, you produce the works of the Holy Spirit and not the works of your own self. The works of the Holy Spirit produce fruit. And when people see it, there’s a God-ordained witnesses to the work of God. When we obey the voice of God and do what He leads us to do, others will take notice. It will speak to their heart. He set it in order that way.

You will know the voice of God because it’s there in every situation. If we choose it we will see good things happen.

Your light is your love; it’s the love He has taught you through His word and by His Spirit. It’s the same love that works in all of us, and if we will allow it to surface, great things can be accomplished.

He came to destroy the works of the evil one, and to teach us to cast down vain imaginations. Have you ever imagined the worst of someone? Have you ever imagined what you would say to someone when they hurt you, and then actually did it? Have you ever imagined someone was against you, or talking about you, or didn’t like you, when you had no proof at all? That’s the strange voice of the accuser. The scripture tells us the accuser goes about seeking to devour us. Thankfully God’s word is so clear when it empowers us with these words:

“And his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” (John 10: 4-5, NIV)

The work of the enemy is accusation. He’s at it constantly. Recognize that accusation is not from God and it’s what we are told to cast down. It’s so easy to accuse others and even to accuse ourselves. Sometimes we are tempted to accuse God, too. Be very sure, this is the stirring up of the adversary. Don’t be baited.

God has called us to peace. Cast down vain imaginations. Remember and proclaim that the accuser is already cast down. We do not have to participate in accusation, unkindness, and slander any longer. We know the truth. And we can fully rest in it.

The love of God that is shed broadly in your heart is your light. It guides you. It speaks throughout your day. It says: be kind, voice that encouraging word, cover a fault, help someone in need, choose not to join in on gossip, resist the urge to say “I told you so,” don’t show partiality, refuse to be cliquish, decide not to share that bad report just because you’ve got the goods, let someone else go first, take the smaller portion, put the shopping cart back where it goes, choose a soft answer instead of blasting back. These acts take submitting to the Holy Spirit, but He is there every time. And when you give way to Him instead of to your pride and selfish desires, you land in the amazing grace you could never muster up on your own. And when you choose it, that grace begins to increase in your life!

Let your light so shine before others. Not to brag or show off, but to love and serve. Do it quietly, with a true heart. It really is more blessed to give than it is to receive. In practice, this means passing on the opportunity to give or get what our fleshly nature wants in any given moment, in exchange for a better way. Our light is His love, which flows so freely when we let it. As believers, we have the beautiful opportunity to yield to it.

With love,

Margo
