I’ve learned that the easiest way to start to pray is to simply begin by thanking God. The scripture tells us that we enter his gates with thanksgiving in our heart and we enter his courts with praise. If you feel unsure, a little scared, or uncertain these days, it’s a perfect time to pray. Just thank the Lord for his blessings—even the little ones, and do it with a sincere heart. It’s a beautiful way to pray. It makes you feel close to God. That’s because thanksgiving is the entry point.

After you’ve thanked Him, try praising Him. It will actually lift your spirit as you honor God. A few simple words of adoration, or singing to Him a song from your childhood will open you to His presence. You may even be inspired to make up your own song of praise.

Sitting still and going to God in prayer is such a privilege. Once you’ve thanked Him and offered up your praise, tell Him what’s on your heart, even the stuff you’re not proud of. Ask Him to take your burden and give you His light instead.

Here’s a truth that will comfort you by reminding you of what God tells us in His word; don’t be worried because He is in control. If we go to Him with our concerns, He will exchange those cares with His peace.

The Bible tells it to us this way:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
